Aperture Size

Certain aperture sizes have been recommended as more suitable for certain barcode symbologies/sizes than others by the ISO/CEN/ANSI standards - see the chart below to find the relevant aperture size for your barcodes:

ISO/CEN/ANSI verifier aperture size- nominal bar size ratio guide:

5mil

 < 330 microns up to 100% EAN13 code

10mil

330-635 microns large EAN13 and small ITF EAN128 codes

20mil

> 635 microns large ITF and EAN128 codes usually printed directly onto corrugated card

USA

For U.S.A. ANSI recommend a 6mil aperture for use on UPC codes up to 660 microns (200%). EAN International have also adopted the ANSI 6mil aperture recommendations.
