Certain aperture sizes have been recommended as more suitable for certain barcode symbologies/sizes than others by the ISO/CEN/ANSI standards - see the chart below to find the relevant aperture size for your barcodes:

USA
For U.S.A. ANSI recommend a 6mil aperture for use on UPC codes up to 660 microns (200%). EAN International have also adopted the ANSI 6mil aperture recommendations.
